Alvin Hower

Al graduated from Rider University, New Jersey, with a Master's degree in Business Education. He served as a Peace Corps Volunteer for 5 1/2 years. He was a teacher and business manager. He also did accounting for the University of South Florida College of Medicine, and retired as a supervisor at Anazao Health. He is fond of saying, “I am not retired; I am a full-time grandpa." 
Prima Guipo-Hower

A graduate of Notre Dame University in General Santos City, Philippines. She graduated Summa cum laude with a degree in Economics and a minor in English. Prima worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Office of the Deans at the University of South Florida, College of Nursing. She was the first Faculty Affairs Coordinator at the School of Engineering at Brown University and received the Dean's Service Award. After eight years, she resigned from Brown to become a full-time “LolaNanny” to her granddaughters, Summer, Zoe, and Lexie.

Partners in Life, Business, and in Service

For 27 years, Al and Prima also owned a small business, Crafts 'n Baskets.

Prima is the author of ‘Tio Doroy’s Field’. Her publishing experience came in handy for the production of the next book. 

No Greater Service is Al’s memoir and a collaboration between him and Prima. They’ve aptly nicknamed it their third ‘baby’, as it is a true labor of love.

Al attended Prima’s 19th birthday party.

They became a team on the very first day they met. Al was a Peace Corps Volunteer assigned to teach at Notre Dame of Dadiangas College in the coastal city of General Santos, Philippines. Prima was working as the secretary to the Director who happened to be Al's boss. She helped Al with administrative tasks. Four and a half years later, they were married.
